After what feels like an eternity, hairdressers and barbers are officially open in England once more and we could not be more happy about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we’ve all spent the last few days getting used to the new normal, the good news is that it\u2019s been an electric first week back for hair, breaking all sorts of records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing\u2019s for certain \u2014 from fixing DIY disasters to catching up with old friends \u2014 hairdressers, you were missed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a few things we’ve learned from the last few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

An important note for our beauty community:<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After an exciting week for hair businesses in England, we’ve also just got the good news that most beauty salons will also be able to open up again from Monday 13th July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having said that, we know there’s a few beauty services that are still waiting for a further announcement. We\u2019re here to keep on supporting you, however we can. You can read our full statement on our community group, Behind Closed Doors<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bookings numbers were (really) big<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clients were definitely<\/em> ready to get back in the chair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We saw a huge increase in demand for appointments for the first week back, as soon as bookings were available – a 2,250% increase<\/strong>, to be exact, across a range of different treatment types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, out of every single appointment slot available last week, a pretty staggering 80% <\/strong>of them were booked up. People really missed the salon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men\u2019s hair is leading the charge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The biggest jump in bookings, compared to pre-lockdown? Men\u2019s hair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bookings were up more than 10x <\/strong>(narrowly beating out women\u2019s) to become the most-booked treatment on Treatwell, as male clients everywhere were finally able to ditch their new desert island look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is also likely to do with the increased safety that comes with pre-booking, instead of relying on the more traditional walk-in – which is no longer allowed by government regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roots are showing up<\/strong> strong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This one shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise. After being starved of any colour touch-ups for months, bookings for men’s and women\u2019s hair colouring treatments – everything from sorting out roots to new highlights – shot up by 942%<\/strong> compared to the week before lockdown began, in one of the biggest peaks we\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be prepared to fix some home-hair-colours gone seriously wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peak times are pretty much gone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With all that extra demand for hair treatments has come a big shift not just in the \u2018what\u2019 of hair booking, but also the \u2018when\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it\u2019s people working more flexibly from home, still furloughed or just prioritising their self-care, instead of the normal lunchtime peaks salons would expect to see, we\u2019ve seen bookings spread out across the whole day – especially in the mornings, around 10AM. Gone are the days of the dead Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does that mean? With more bookings spread out across the day, it might be an idea to consider extending your opening hours to make sure you’re capturing as many bookings as possible. The appetite is certainly there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
