These are the beauty treatments that will help you recover from a festival

10 August 2019 by Beth Ryan

So, you’ve just got back from a festival – sleeping in a six-man tent (with nine people, obviously), and enduring daily mud-baths (with no spa in sight). The last speck of glitter is removed and your Insta feed is sufficiently filled with #takemebackphotos, now what? You’re in need of a detox. Sure, for blood-shot eyes and a raspy voice, nothing works better than a good night’s sleep (or four), but these treatments will help too. Here’s what we suggest to get back on form post-festival.

  • 1 Treatment #1: for dehydrated skin

These are the facts. Neglecting your skin for a little too long, and excessive alcohol can cause your lipid barrier to become imbalanced – lipids maintain skin’s hydration and minimise water loss, FYI. That dry mouth the morning after? Yeah, imagine how your skin is feeling. An oxygen facial is seriously restorative, applying a stream of pressurised oxygen onto the skin for immediate hydration. Make sure to slink straight back into your go-to skincare routine once you’re back home too – step away from the makeup wipes.

    Save my skin

  • 2 Treatment #2: for glitter-coated hair

Dry, weak and brittle – and your hair’s suffering too. A lack of showers and an abundance of dry shampoo (not to mention the glitter roots) doesn’t typically make for a very good hair day. Though an at-home wash may scrub out that ‘great idea’ rainbow dye, for real restoration, pop to the salon for an intensive conditioning treatment: intensive Kerastase hair mask, or a ‘hair steaming’ appointment, will help to increase the flow of natural oils in the scalp.

    Condition me

  • 3 Treatment #3: for danced-out limbs

After a few nights of roughing it, and cutting shapes, you’re probably feeling a little weary. Quelle surprise – we’re prescribing a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, calling in sick after all that social media activity is going to look a tad suspicious. So get as much sleep as possible, then book in for cure number three to soothe tired muscles: a massage. Stimulating deep circulation of blood and lymph will help your body to heal. Better yet, it’s sure to release endorphins (hormones that make you feel really good). Like a hug for your whole body.

    Yep, massage, right now

  • 4 Treatment #4: for neglected fingertips

Alright, we appreciate that four days of festival-ing is a teeny is not the obvious excuse to head for a mani. Come on, all that bottle-opening with your hands, and dirt beneath the nails will have taken its toll on your fingertips. Plus. it just feels good. A traditional manicure will cleanse, file and buff your nails to restore their condition – and a hand massage is always a bonus. Fix up any chips on that pre-festival mani, or freshen up your fingertips with shellac. It may not be essential, but we’re all for looking down at perky nails.

    Fix my fingertips

  • 5 Treatment #5: detoxify (treat your soul)

Last on the list, detoxify. A little exercise after fast food and boozing is the obvious tactic for detoxifying the body. If we’re honest, fried onions in your jumbo hot dog are probably the only veg you’ve consumed for a whole. Exercise will get your muscles moving, blood flowing, and toxins sweated out (if you’re getting wafts of cider mid-spin, don’t worry). A steaming session in the sauna will do you good too, as well as bucket loads of green tea: packed full of antioxidants, it should help to flush out toxins and support your body’s natural detox system.
