    3. 6 things your Brazilian waxing therapist wishes you knew

6 things your Brazilian waxing therapist wishes you knew

Published on 9 January 2019 by Beth Ryan

Ever wondered what’s going on inside the head of your therapist? While we’re not mind-readers (yet – we’re honing our skills on that crystal ball), we do know a thing or two about waxing. Here are six things we reckon your therapist wishes you knew that would make your visit – quite literally – smoother.

    • 1 What you wear matters

You might be getting half-naked, but your pre- and post-wax outfit is still important. Wear something you can easily whip on and off, like a maxi-skirt or harem pants. As well as saving time, the soft fabric is kind on freshly waxed skin.

    • 2 Let it grow

Leave your hair to grow to about a quarter of an inch before your wax so that the strips can get a grip on them. It might be tempting to try a bit of DIY treatment in the meantime, but you'll get better results if you resist. (That's what floaty beach shorts are for.)

    • 3 It's better if you relax

Being tense can make the wax more painful, so try to relax as much as possible, although we know that might sound easier said than done. But if you're calm, the whole session will be much more bearable. Chat to your therapist, shut your eyes and imagine you're in your happy place, or practise some cognitive behavioural therapy on yourself – whatever works to take your mind off it.

    • 4 Think about what you’re after

It’s always best to come prepared with an idea of the style you're after. Whether you want a skinny landing strip, a square postage stamp or your partner's initials, just let your therapist know. Otherwise, you might end up with one of the above when you just wanted an au naturel trim.

    • 5 You might need to move around

Your therapist wants to get every last hair, so get ready to flip into some positions that would seriously impress your pilates instructor. They might also ask you to lend a hand – literally – to pull the skin taught while they pull off the strip.

    • 6 Expect a bit of redness

f your skin's a bit pink, blotchy or spotty after you've left, try not to immediately panic-call the salon. A bit of redness is totally normal and usually goes away the same day. Use post-wax skin soothers to help keep irritation to a minimum.
