6 nail trends from Fashion Week we’ll be wearing this year

Published on 18 February 2019 by Beth Ryan

Though 90% of our manicure trips end with nude-coated fingertips, there’s something about new-season trends that keep our eyes looking toward the catwalk. The past few weeks have seen all sorts of fingertip goodness, from claw-like extensions, to well-groomed bare nails. From New York, straight to London, (and all the OTT clothing in between), here are the 9 nail looks that have caught our attention, that’ll definitely be trying out next time. Probably.

    By Rachel Spedding

    • 1 Two-toned

As seen at: House of Holland

Colour-blocking done right. House of Holland chose a zesty reverse manicure for their catwalk shows, with striking shades of contrasting teal and black – paired with makeup in similar hues.

    • 2 Monogram

      As seen at: Jeremy Scott

A manicure to describe your mood? ‘H-U-N-G-R-Y’. Jeremy Scott went for monogrammed with a little more meaning; his models’ nails tiled to spell out ‘New York’. Miss Pop of Essie made the headline-inspired, graffiti manicure happen

    • 3 Minimal (with a little something)

      As seen at: TIBI

Shouldn’t be biased… this one is our favourite. Jin Soon Choi was the nail expert behind Tibi’s tips. The base of each nail was coated in holographic silver flecks, while the top half was slicked in a toffee-beige shade, all coated with a matte finish.

    • 4 Extensions (with embellishment)

      As seen at: Adeam

A shimmer of sheer pink and bold navy speckled the nails at the Adeam show, embellished with pearls for their crowning glory. It took 12 hours to craft the nail look for all 500 models. Not quite an express mani then.

    • 5 Scenic

      As seen at: Mary Katrantzou

Katrantzou projected a theme of ‘elements’ across apparel and manis. Deep oranges, burnt reds, and ombre pastels were combined in water colour patterns to represent Earth, Air, Water and Fire. Definitely one for the pros.

    • 6 Nude shimmer

      As seen at: Kate Spade

We knew our simple nails would get their time. Kate Spade saw the true wonder of nude with her catwalk mani of choice. With ‘second-skin glitter’ the vision, manicurist Julie Kandalec (of Essie), applied bronze glitter delicately across the nail. Wiping the brush almost entirely clean, and just grabbing a few flecks to top the fingertips. Nail art, but chilled.
