These 7 men’s haircuts have made a major comeback

Published on 2 September 2020 - Last updated on 27 April 2022 by Beth Ryan

Some men’s trends are best left in history (Ugg boots, I’m looking at you). Haircuts on the other hand… It’s not just the nostalgia, these styles keep cropping up on the catwalk and the high street, which confirms it – we’ve got a haircut revival on our hands. From throwback chops, to the resurrection of the mullet (potentially), these are the hairstyles making a comeback.

    By Rachel Spedding

    • 1 90s

Mid-length in cut, and a style more than reminiscent of your favourite boy band way-back-when (A1 – the dark horses of the charts). This trend proves it: 90s is still a very good look.

    • 2 Shaved head

Styling doesn’t get easier than this – a buzzcut is ridiculously easy to maintain. Not feeling a close shave? Try a number 5 all over; a little scruffing up with textured paste in the morning and you’re good to go (and properly ‘on trend’).

    • 3 Bowl hair

Bear with. Worn with texture, in a shaken-out style, the cropped cut looks effortless and is low-maintenance. Ask your barber for choppy edges. Mum, step away with the crockery.

    • 4 Long hair

Mmm Bop – forget those visions. ‘California' vibes are proving seriously popular right now, whether you wear it ‘straight out the ocean’ with tousled tresses, or slicked back for a seventies edge. Man-bun optional, but wear with caution.

    • 5 Slicked back

One if you’re feeling preppy, or really, really smart. This one looks best with a side part, so if you’ll be sporting it regularly, ask your barber to thin the slicked-side slightly to keep the look balanced. Don Draper would be proud.

    • 6 Curls

No, curls never went 'out', but it seems that more gents are stepping away from the straighteners and close crops, letting their natural curls flow free. Messy and parted, curls are a 70s winner.

    • 7 Mullet

Yes, I’m serious. Welding together two different hairstyles, the mullet has made a comeback on catwalks of late. A winning style on men and women, you’ve heard it before – business in the front, party in the back.
