The 90s tortoiseshell mani is about to be the most instagrammable nail trend of the season

Published on 8 November 2021 by Beth Ryan

Attention, animal print lovers: this one’s for you. We obsessed over them back in 2019 – but tortoiseshell nails are *officially* back, and they are without a doubt (in our eyes anyway) the nail art trend of the season.

Tortoiseshell was an absolute staple for any 90s or 00s gal (and still is for anyone still obsessed with 90s and 00s fashion – ourselves very much included). We wore it on everything from our sunglasses to our claw clips – and we’re pretty much back to doing all of that in 2021. Now, though, we’re also adding it to our nails – and we’re so here for it.

Tortie print is made up of shades of brown, honey, and caramel, with accents in shades of deep mahogany and black. We already know that shades of brown have taken over everything from our clothes to our lipstick recently – so it’s no wonder that tortie nails are already a hit for winter.

It’s suitable for every nail length, and can be incorporated into any design you fancy. Full-on tortie, accent nails, or french tips? We’re loving them all. Add some gold or glitter for a dose of festive elegance – it is party season after all.

So, is it the most instagrammable mani of the season? We think so. Here’s all the inspo you need to try it out.
