    3. Edible chocolate manicures? The cutting-edge nail treatment that we’re *drooling* over

Edible chocolate manicures? The cutting-edge nail treatment that we’re *drooling* over

Published on 1 April 2022 - Last updated on 1 July 2022 by Beth Ryan

Yep, you read that right – there’s a new treatment on the block, and we’re already *slightly* obsessed. And, if you’re a beauty lover with a sweet tooth (i.e. – all of us here at Treatwell), then we think you’ll love it too. Edible nails – made entirely from real chocolate – are a world-first in the beauty industry, but we’re pretty sure they’re going to catch on fast. Now obviously – they look insanely pretty (who doesn’t love a good brown nail moment), but they also taste amazing.

Like something straight out of Willy Wonka’s factory – just pick your flavour, add some nail art – and you’re good to go. Neither polish nor gel – just 100% edible chocolate. Sounds delicious – we know, but how does it actually work? We’ve got all you need to know.

1 So, how does it work?

It starts out pretty simple. You pick the flavour – dark, milk, white, or even ruby chocolate. Your nail technician (turned chocolatier) then applies 100% real chocolate in thin layers on to your nail, using a foodsafe brush. Then (and this is the fun part), you can choose a couple of toppings to complete the look – hazelnuts, caramel – even edible gold leaf for the *classy* amongst us. Finally, your therapist will use a machine to ‘freeze’ the nails into place – kind of how an LED lamp would be used for gel. The cutting-edge technology allows the chocolate to semi-permanently set, meaning they’re both practical and edible., made entirely from chocolate. If you’re a chocoholic (same) – this one’s definitely for you.

      … Happy April Fool’s(!!)

Okay so, *confession*. While we’d love for this to be real – edible nails aren’t really arriving on the scene (not just yet, anyway) – although YouTuber Jessie Mills did give it a good go back in 2016. And whilst sadly, we won’t be eating our nails instead of eggs this Easter – the chocolate-coloured manicure (non-edible version) is most definitely one of the biggest nail trends of the year. Here are a few of our faves that we’ll absolutely be wearing this spring – edible or not.

      2 99% cocoa

We’re living in a true 90s revival – skinny brows, lined lips, and of course – our beloved chocolate mani. Although this all-over, deep brown mani isn’t edible, it definitely *looks* good enough to eat. Rich, luxurious, and totally on-trend (plus it goes with almost everything, which is always a bonus).

      3 Chocolate swirls

It was one of the biggest trends of 2021 – but the swirl manicure is showing no signs of stopping in 2022, and brown is a big-hitter when it comes to colour choices. Opt for shades in caramel, chocolate, and coffee for a chic yet sweet mani.

      4 Ferrero Rocher

Okay, so this one isn’t brown – but it’s definitely giving us all the vibes of everyone’s favourite fancy christmas chocolate – Ferrero Rocher. Delicate gold leaf details take this mani to the next level, and add a touch of sparkle to any look.

      5 Willy Wonka

Another of the year’s biggest nail trends – wavy mani's are all over TikTok and Insta, and we can see why. Opt for brown tones and a sheer nude base for a barely-there pop of chic yet whimsical cocoa goodness that Willy Wonka himself would approve of.

6 Chocoholics, this one's for you

Want to take the chocolate goodness even further? We’ve got you covered – chocolate actually has a tonne of benefits when it comes to beauty thanks to its antioxidant properties. Used in facials or massages, chocolate deeply nourishes the epidermis and purifies the skin (and on top of that, it smells amazing).

Fancy a totally new look instead?

Brunette hair is, like, totally in RN. (Don’t believe us? This will change your mind). Opt for luxurious shades of chocolate and caramel for an uber-rich look, and try a balayage for a dimensional look.
